Commitment to Achieving Net Zero
Peninsula Business Services Group is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2040.
Baseline Emissions Footprint
Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and were produced prior to the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions. Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured.
Additional Details relating to the Baseline Emissions calculations.
We currently do not have the data to report all scope 3 emissions, but are in the process of collating it. The baseline year and previous year emissions are based on what was reported within the SECR report for that year and are for Peninsula Business Services Group as a whole. Transport emissions were previously all reported within scope 3 but will be split into scope 1 and 3 as appropriate in future reports. Transport data is derived from mileage claims for company cars and grey fleet.
The information has been collated from the Company’s ISO 50001:2018 certified energy management system which uses methods suggested in Statutory Instrument 2014 No.1643 and BS EN 16247-1:2012. Emission conversions are based on the UK Government carbon conversion factors for grid electricity, natural gas (gross) and an ‘average’ car petrol/ diesel split of 65%/ 35%.
Electricity and gas data was compiled from billed data from primary meters in owned premises in Manchester and Hinckley. Meter data was provided by landlords for Belfast, Glasgow, and Cork. Estimates were made for the Dublin office (gas and electricity) and the London office (gas) due to concerns about meter accuracy and/ or the availability of accurate data from landlords.
Manchester, Hinckley and Transport data made up 94.2% of total kWh consumption.
Due to only part of March 2020 being impacted by Covid-19 and a lack of older reliable data, the 2019/20 year was deemed to be the most appropriate base year.

Emissions reduction targets
In order to continue our progress to achieving Net Zero, we have adopted the following interim carbon reduction targets:
- Carbon emissions will decrease by 50% by 2030.
- Carbon emissions will reduce by 80% by 2035.
Progress against these targets will be reported on an annual basis.
In future versions of this plan, we will consider how we report for each Company that makes up the Peninsula Business Services Group.
Carbon Reduction Projects
Completed Carbon Reduction Initiatives
The Company successfully achieved certification to ISO 50001:2018 in November 2019 and successfully retained it during the reporting period. Actions to improve efficiency include reductions in business mileage through increased use of teleconferencing software to replace face-to-face internal, sales and client meetings as well as intelligent alignment of field staff service areas.
Emissions from miles reduced by 76% in 2020/21 compared to the base year. Improvement in office electricity and gas emissions are being targeted via improved energy awareness and lighting upgrades. Additional indicators have been developed to allow reporting at a fuel and site level.
PBSG has now committed to reviewing the feasibility for installing renewables at all owned property. During 2022 we will aim to cost out the potential for solar PV, wind and hydro at our head office in Manchester as well as solar PV at Hinckley. We are also committed to upgrading all lights to LED.
Senior management is currently reviewing how we certify this reduction plan through schemes such as PAS 2060 or the SBTI.
